#TEAMTINY OR #TEAMNOTSOTINY?

SEEKING my TINY IN A BIG WORLD!

Welcome Back Sawdust Crew! If you’ve ever wondered how you can protect the environment, become financially free, and totally live large, by going “tiny”; you’re definitely in the right place to see how DIY’ers and countless others around the globe are redefining what the American Dream of home ownership looks like, by Seeking Tiny in A Big World—Their Way!

On today’s blog we’re asking the question, Are you #TEAMTINY or #TEAMNOTSOTINY?

Answering the question whether you’re #TEAMTINY or #TEAMNOTSOTINY, might surprise you after seeing the increasing number of people who choose to resign to a more minimal and free lifestyle by going tiny.

The verdict is in and the people have spoken. And loudly might I add. Gone are the days of traditional ideals about what the American Dream is all about. Whether its job security, climbing the corporate ladder, or fancy titles, people everywhere from all walks of life, are breaking free from society’s thoughts on what the ideal family looks like and where & how we work.

How does a newbie like me (someone whose used a hammer & screwdriver a few times ever) learn about this lifestyle without getting sucked down the YouTube rabbit hole of endless content?

Shout Out to some of my YouTube favorites. The Tiny Homebuilders Team (Hey Dan), Matt & Danielle over at Exploring Alternatives, Jenna at Tiny House Gigantic journey, Tiny Home Tours, Alexis & Christian at Tiny House Expedition, Bryce Living Big in a Tiny House, oh yeah, I recently subscribed to The Outsider’s channel. I hope Seeking my Tiny In A Big World will become your favorite too!!! LOL

But Why tiny?

We’ve all been told that finding your “Why” before doing anything new is the most important thing when it comes to success. But everybody’s why is different.

Maybe you want to protect the environment, get control of your finances, or enjoy a more fulfilling life, whatever the reason, people everywhere are shattering the myth—that bigger is ALWAYS better.

My Encounter

At first glance, I was fascinated by countless stories of pioneers downsizing their lives by going tiny before it was popular! Allan Wexler, Lloyd Kahn, Lester Walker, Jay Schaefer, Dan Louche, Rob Greenfield, and more.

My inner-self wondered why in the world was I so smitten with this unrealistic fantasy world of going “tiny”. There’s no way I could ever live in something so small, let alone afford to have one built, or better yet, build it myself…….. It was all a dream right?

And then it happened! As my fingers went to work typing in tiny home building courses, it was as if the words jumped off the page at me. Tiny Home Builders Workshop held in VA this weekend. It was an answer to an unspoken prayer. I immediately bought my ticket to this workshop and booked an Air B&B.

THE SAWDUST FILES opens its 1st case with one such pioneer, Dan Louche. After receiving a startling call from his mom that the trailer she lived in was falling down around her. Dan began researching ways to help. But with no money to buy a traditional home for his ailing mom his options were few. Enter tiny home living.

Excerpt from Dan’s Book: TINY HOUSE DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION GUIDE: Your Guide to Building a Mortgage Free, Environmentally Sustainable Home

“I had always been interested in smaller homes, but up until this point, I had no idea there was an entire movement around tiny living. Once I discovered it, I was hooked. I began building my mother a tiny house of her own in September 2009.”

After the house was complete and my mother had moved in, I was amazed by the level of joy that it brought her. Her excitement was contagious as others who had previously been skeptical of tiny living were now genuinely considering the possibility of living in a tiny home themselves. When I saw this reaction, I knew that I wanted to help others experience a similar level of happiness and independence. I founded Tiny Home Builders and have been sharing my knowledge on tiny houses ever since.

I imagine, since you are reading this book, you too are excited about the possibilities that a tiny house can bring; the financial freedom of not having a mortgage, the freedom to move as you desire and to take your house with you, and finally the freedom of a simpler life. I hope you find answers and inspiration in these pages and realize that building your own tiny house is an achievable dream.”  Dan Louche

“I couldn’t say that any better Dan.” Charmaine Hart

Who goes tiny?

The greatest takeaway I got from the workshop was the diversity of cultures & peoples who were brought together by a common dream of living large by living tiny. People from different backgrounds, all showing up to express their version of what Seeking Tiny In A Big World looks like—Their way!

Here’s a sneak peek into never before seen footage from inside the workshop. We’ll refer to these confidential records as “The Sawdust Files”.
